It’s that time! Packing for the hospital is so exciting to me, even though I know I’ll only use 1/4 of what I bring! I always wait until about 36 weeks to pack anything and then slowly add things until about 39 weeks. I use one bag for me and the hubby and then a separate bag just for baby.
If I’m being completely honest, you really don’t need to bring anything but a carseat for baby, BUT what fun is that? We’ve had so much fun shopping for Cali and buying all her sweet baby things. I would bring more, but kept it as simple as I could.
I always just bring the diaper bag to hold all of babies things, but you could totally just bring something random too. I decided to use a backpack style bag this time around and am OBSESSED with my Jujube BRB. It is the perfect size and has so many pockets and storage uses. Jujuebe in general makes amazing bags so definitely check them out. I also packed socks, headabands etc in the Be Set. It’s just another fun and easy way to keep organized.
Swaddle blankets: My kids love to be swaddled and I love swaddling them. I always bring 2-3 cute blankets to the hospital that I can use to swaddle and also use as backdrops for pictures. I also ALWAYS have a miracle blanket. The miracle blanket literally is a miracle blanket. Every kiddo has used one and it works every time. Keeps them perfectly swaddled and helps them sleep. This time I’m also bringing a beautiful swaddle sack from Fawn and Sage that you just pull up around baby like a burrito. I’m not sure it actually keeps their arms in, but it’s super cute. (Top floral blanket is fabric I bought from indybloomdesign and made into a swaddle blanket)
Baby headbands/hats: Babies head and feet will get cold in the hospital. My girls live in headbands year round and I like to bring a few options for each outfit. As for hats, we really only use them in the hospital, but still bring a few choices because I can’t make decisions. (Headbands from June and January and WearLoveAmalieMaren)
Socks/Booties: I’m super excited to use June and January booties with Cali and am bringing three color options so I can pick what I want while I’m there. I will most likely layer them with socks depending on how cold Cali is!
2-3 Outfits: If you are taking pictures at the hospital, I definitely suggest bringing more than one outfit. You really have no idea how big your baby is and you’ll want something that fits. We know we have huge babies, BUT I still always bring something newborn size. We’ve never used it, but you just never know. My taste has changed with each baby and right now I’m into bright colors and clean designs. Less lace, more stripes! Most of my outfits are June and January, but the white romper is from The Little Spoons.
Baby book/Milestone cards: Obsessed with this beautiful and easy to use baby books by Lucy Darling. I won’t be writing in the book while I’m there, but I like to bring it so I can get her footprints put directly on the page. I also won’t really be using the Leni + Co milestone cards in the hospital, but there is one announcement type card in the set that I can prop in her bassinet if I decide to : )
Pacifiers: I would rather my kids take a pacifier over their thumb so we introduce them immediately. There are people that say it will cause nipple confusion etc, but it’s worked for us everytime so we do it anyway. Only our oldest Payton loved it and we had to take it away at 2 years old. The other kids gave it up themselves by 6 months. It will be interesting to see what Cali does : ) Our favorite brand is by MAM
Burp Cloths: These are always helpful to have and although your little one most likely won’t be spitting up breastmilk yet, many will spit up amniotic fluid for a while. Basically you or the baby will be leaking some type of fluid at all times, so keep these handy lol. Of course I went with June and January once again : )
Baby Toiletries: We give our kids a small first bath at the hospital so I like to bring our own shampoo etc to use. The hospital will have some you can use there, but I decided to bring this cute travel set from Tubby Todd. We may or may not use it, we’ll see when we’re there!
This is still a maybe item for me. Sometimes I’ve used it, sometimes I’ve stacked up the pillows under my arm. Both work the same haha. It will probably be a split decision as we are leaving for the hospital! I bought the cover from LullabiesLollipops on Etsy and it is so beautiful! I may just take it off and use a plain one at the hospital so it doesn’t get dirty.
As you can see, none of these items are necessities, but we know what we use by now, and like to be over prepared.
Friday I will be posting what’s in MY hopsital bag and many items are things you really will need. Make sure to subscribe so you can check it out.
Let me know if you brought similar items for your baby or if I forgot something!
