Hospital Bag for Baby #5: My bag

Sweet Cali is on her way in just a few days/weeks so I need to pack and get ready for our hospital stay. I already shared Cali’s bag, but figured I should share mine too!

You’d think by now I wouldn’t overpack, but no, I love it. I don’t see why it matters if you bring too much stuff. Much better than not enough stuff. Am I right?

Keep in mind that this is what I bring and you may not want or need everything I pack. You also may want some things I don’t pack. All in all you’ll be pretty much fine with the very bare essentials.

Labor gown: This is obviously not a must have, but I love cute things and so a labor gown is a need for me. The baby will come out the same way in a hospital gown too so it’s really just personal preference. The brand I use is Gownies and I bought mine off Amazon.

Sports Bras/Nursing bras: I have tried a lot of of different bras with all the kids and generally prefer basic sports bras I can just pull down. Their are some beautiful easy to use nursing bras out there that are worth the investment if you plan on having more kids, BUT because this is the last baby I’m not getting any. I got a 2 pack at TJ Maxx for $9 and then will use my comfy Victoria Secret ones too.

Dark big undies: You may or may not need these. I usually only wear undies home because I LOVE the mesh undies the hospital provides. That being said, you may want your own. Go big or go home. Literally. You’ll want larger undies that are dark in color. There is a lot of liquid happening after birth and trust me, you’d destroy pretty panties. Mine are just black Victoria Secret briefs/boy shorts.

Socks: Again, not a need, but might as well come prepared. At home I rarely wear socks, but usually do while I’m at the hospital. It’s just more cozy : )

Belly Bandit: I have never used a belly wrap at the hospital, BUT always bring one in case. Basically its a tight wrap you put around your tummy to hold it in. Supposedly it helps your stomach shrink back to size, but I’m not sure that’s true. I just like how they feel on my belly the first few weeks when my skin is feeling super gross and loose!

Dwell +Slumber Gown: If you’re on instagram you’ll have seen these. They are beautiful cozy and flowy gowns that you can wear pregnant or not pregnant. I normally would not bring any kind of nightgown/dress, but want some pretty outfits for pictures this time around. Most likely it will be used more at home as a dress to wear around the house. (These dresses sell out as soon as they are put up so sign up for their emails!)

PinkBlush Robe: Lot’s of people say a robe is a must have, but I have never brought one to the hospital. I could see it being great if you have visitors coming to meet baby, but we only let the kids and my parents visit while we are there, so I could care less what I wear : ) However, the robe is seriously gorgeous and Payton wanted me to get one. She watches birth videos with me all the time and requested I buy a robe to wear, so of course I had to.

High Waisted Yoga Pants: These are my NUMBER ONE favorite thing to wear after giving birth. My stomach is always a mess and so loose feeling that I have to wear pants that hold it all in. I swear by the Lululemon high rise Wunder Unders crops. Although expensive, I wear them so much that the price is worth it.

Cozy Sweats: I like to have options so I always bring a pair of sweats just in case I decide to wear them. I have never actually worn them at the hospital, but you never know! I bought these charcoal joggers from Mindy Maes, but I’m not even sure I’ll fit in them right away lol.

Loose cozy tees/Tight tanks: After you have a baby you will still look pregnant. Even with my first I had a sizable bump right after labor. If you have seen my belly, you can imagine I still look fully pregnant after my babies come out. I prefer looser shirts to cover my pooch so always bring some comfy tees to wear. I like to layer a tighter tank under the tees for more belly support and coverage when I’m nursing. I am obsessed with the Soft and Sexy V-Neck Tees from American Eagle and am also loving Fitted Cami Tanks (tall size) from Old Navy.

Hoodie/Sweatshirt: Comfort is key after your baby is born! Comfort doesn’t just mean cozy, but also feeling ok about your body. I feel so frumpy those first few weeks and like to cover up a bit more than normal. A hoodie is perfect because it’s loose and I can unzip to nurse. I got this Camo Zip Hoodie from Mindy Maes as well and am OBSESSED. Camo is life.

Flip Flops: Most people bring flip flops for the shower, I bring them because I retain SO MUCH water after labor. My feet need room to breathe.

Toiletry bag: You will only need basic toiletries, but I always bring 80% more than what I need. I have NEVER done my hair at the hospital so hair products (including hairdryer/flat iron) do not come to the hospital. I make sure to bring all my face care products, a toothbrush, toothpaste, contacts, bodywash, shampoo/conditioner and makeup wipes. I use Kiehls for all my skincare and bring a ton of my products, but most likely I’ll only use the facewash and moisturizer. I do always take a shower, but just to wash my body. If you plan on washing your hair, make sure you bring everything you need to dry and style it.

Makeup Bag: Makeup is not a necessity for some, but makeup makes me feel so much better. I can throw on a little bronzer/blush and mascara and feel like a million bucks. You will probably be taking quite a few pictures and makeup will help make you look less tired. It also can pass time while you’re waiting for baby : )

Dad’s Bag: You will want to make sure you bring some clothes/toiletries for your hubby/significant other so that they can be comfortable too. Billy will just share my toiletries with me, but if your significant other has their own stuff, pack that as well! We keep it pretty simple and Billy just brings sweats, shorts, boxer briefs, socks and a t-shirt. We have never stayed very long at the hospital so one outfit is good, but bring more if you are not sure how long you’ll be there!

whew! So much stuff and we will be there 24 hours haha! Either way we are fully prepared and hopefully will have everything that we need! Let me know in the comments if you bring anything I forgot : )
